The Demon Hunts the God

It is now April 11th, and that means it’s Solavellan DAy, the celebration day for Solas from the Dragon Age video game franchise, all the various types of relationships we may have with him.

As a first thing I’ve done for this occasion, is a short fan-fiction story that is for all Solas relationships, that features Lucanis Dellamorte.

Lucanis Dellamorte receives a job he cannot refuse, his target is the Dread Wolf, and he fears he may not return from this one.

Lucanis looked down at the parchment that gave him his target. He stared at the wax seal stamped on it: that of the Inquisition. He threw the parchment into the fire; he had to get rid of the evidence. He cracked his knuckles. His targets usually knew he was coming for them; it would be no different this time.
Lucanis could feel his heart beating in his chest. He was the Demon, how fitting, but even a real demon could not catch this target. How was he going to hunt one who did not wish to be found? His target was the most dangerous man to exist. No, not man, god. He chuckled to himself, shaking his head. His target was the Dread Wolf.
Lucanis leaned a hand on the stone wall above the fireplace, staring down into the fire.
The servant who had brought him the message was a young elf, perhaps a fresh recruit well disguised. The parchment had had only three words inscribed on it. “Your target: Solas.” Straight to the point, he could appreciate that. No useless embellishments, no time frame or constraints. This would give him much liberty in his search. There was also no payment written, but the elf who’d brought him the message had also given him a sack of gold. The Inquisition’s seal all but guaranteed proper payment would come once the job was done.
Lucanis heard footsteps climbing the stairs to his room and the door opened. Lucanis didn’t need to look up to know his cousin had just entered his room.
‘What’s wrong?’ Illario asked. ‘You look like you’re about to be sick.’
Lucanis took a moment to figure out how to tell his cousin he was walking into certain death.
‘Is it the Venatori?’ Illario asked.
         ‘A job.’
Illario let out a one-breathed laugh. ‘You’ve never let a job worry you before.’
Lucanis looked up and into his cousin’s eyes from across the room. ‘I might not return from this one.’
Illario’s brows furrowed into a scowl. ‘Then refuse it.’
‘It’s too late, I’ve already agreed and accepted the first payment.’ Lucanis began to fiddle with one of his knives.
Illario hesitated. ‘Well? Who’s the target?’
‘The one being that might kill me.’

The Demon Undead (Dragon Age Fan-Fiction Short Story)

The Demon Undead is a Dragon Age Fan-Fiction Short Story inspired by the recent stories released on Dragon Age Day. This one pertains to the events in “The Wake” and take place shortly after, where Illario Dellamorte discovers that his cousin, Lucanis Dellamorte is actually alive.

Illario Dellamorte stood in front of the mirror arranging his collar. Somehow he didn’t seem to be able to place it quite how it should be. The jacket didn’t feel right either, it was too stiff. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that his cousin was dead and now he had greater responsibilities than he had ever hoped for.

Illario let his shoulders slump for a moment. He had always wanted to become the First Talon. He had wanted Caterina to choose him. But not like this.

There was a knock on his door. Viago DeRiva peered his head in the room.

‘You have a visitor,’ he announced.

‘Tell him I’ll be right over.’ Illario didn’t even turn away from the mirror. He felt obsessed with getting the collar to stand up right around his neck.

‘No need,’ said Viago. Through the mirror, Illario saw Viago motion a chair in a dark corner of the room where sat a man dressed in a dark cloak and hood.

Illario doubled over, stepping away from the mirror, gasping. ‘How did you get in here?’ he demanded. Illario turned to the door, but Viago had already left and closed the door.

The man in the chair lifted his head and removed his hood.

Illario choked on his saliva. He blinked several times. This couldn’t be! He was staring at the face of his cousin, Lucanis Dellamorte.

‘You’re dead! Which means you’re a demon!’

‘Well, I am the Demon.’ The man had his cousin’s voice.

‘No! This isn’t real!’ Illario backed away, his gaze transfixed on the man, his jaw tight.

The man with his cousin’s face stood from his seat.

‘Illario, it’s me. I’m not dead.’

‘Prove it!’

Lucanis rolled his eyes. ‘Seriously?’ He sighed. ‘Just stop shouting. You want the world to know I’m not really dead? After all the trouble I went through?’

‘How?’ Illario kept his hand near his dagger. ‘More importantly, why?’

Darth Lahnius, Fane’s Brother (Photoshop for Star Wars SWTOR Fan-Fiction)

This character is a bit of a throwback, since he last appeared in Story 1 of my Star Wars Fan-Fiction SWTOR stule, Old Republic era story. Darth Lahnius was a powerful apprentice to Darth Kromus. He was ordered to destroy Shadie and at the end of their duel (spoilers) Shadie stabbed him with her lightsaber and left him for dead as the cave around them crumbled. She and her friends got out of there ASAP.

If you’ve read the series stories (uploaded thus far there are 5, though I have written a lot more), you’ve learnt that Lahnius was Fane’s brother, Fane who was a Jedi and avenged his brother’s death with an unfortunate dip to the dark side before his exile to Mandalore.

At the time, I did not have an image for Lahnius, my Photoshop skills were not up to par. In a few years, I have no doubt I will be able to do even more to depict my characters. It happened I wanted to experiment with creating Dark Side Corruption. Darth Lahnius, at this time, has mild Dark Side Corruption.

Having siblings of my own, and being constantly told we look alike, aside from a few features that are different, I chose to use the face of Fane to create my Lahnius. I use an Inquisitor from Dragon Age: Inquisition for Fane’s face. I took a screenshot where he looks like an angrier and gruffier version of himself.

In Photoshop, I removed freckles, added blemishes, added dark streaks on his face, coloured in the corruption with a teal and purple hue and then with black. I also darkened the eyes, hair, eye lashes, brows, lips. I would have liked to spike the hair up a bit, but it’s not detrimental to the transformation to make this face look more like Lahnius would look.

Of course, I also put him in Sith gear, with a lightsaber.

I’ve also finally added Chapter Headers to Story 1. It was the only story where I did not have any. I’m glad I’ve done that, it feels more organised to begin a chapter with a header.

Let me now your thoughts on Lahnius. As always, I’m open to feedback. I do have a version with even more corruption on his face, but that will be for a later date.
