Epilogue

Shadie and Knarf stepped out of the Sphere. Brenum reached for Trylia’s hand and pulled her gently. She turned to look at him. Her glance was intense, yet full of sadness. She motioned towards the exit.
‘Trylia, I think we need to talk,’ said Brenum. ‘Or at least, just let me hold you. You’ve been uneasy since we left Relsor’s ship; I know it wasn’t easy trying to fool him and play him at his own game.’
Trylia shook her head. ‘There is something in him, something he carries.’ Brenum looked down. ‘Other than his malady,’ Trylia specified. ‘There is a longing that is akin to Shadie’s when we first met her, and I thought I could change him.’
‘But he’s not Shadie,’ said Brenum. ‘He’s not our friend; he’s our enemy.’
‘So was Shadie before she turned towards the light. I just wish there was something I could do for him. Brenum, I saw a different side to him. I just wish I could save him.’
‘You can’t save everyone, Trylia,’ Brenum said softly. He gently brushed one of her lekku with the back of his hand, caressing it soothingly.
Trylia’s eyes grew wide and she took Brenum, pushing him and backing him towards the Sphere’s wall. She pinned him and held him there for a moment. Then, as though realising what she had done, she let go and backed away, tears forming in her eyes. Brenum only felt sorrow.
‘I’m sorry,’ she said. ‘I’m reacting with you the way I should have with Relsor. Even though I saw a gentler side to him, I still… I didn’t want… I have such conflicting emotions.’
Brenum closed his eyes. ‘I should never have encouraged you to play him. I realise his torments must have caused you some trauma.’ He looked up at her. ‘Did he touch you like that? With the lekku?’
‘Yes, but it wasn’t the same as when you do it. He tried to induce my energy with his pheromones through the Force, so much that Shadie and Knarf felt them. They said it was so inebriating but it only made them want each other more. When Relsor did it to me, it never made me want him. It made me feel how you make me feel, made me want you, but it was unnerving.’
‘I understand,’ said Brenum, taking a step towards her and taking her hand.
‘I want you to know that I never let him do anything to me and I would not have either.’ Brenum nodded. Trylia stared back. ‘I never betrayed our love. What I feel towards Relsor is empathy, but just because I feel sorrow for him doesn’t mean I feel anything else towards him, or that it changes how I feel towards you. My conflict is with wanting to save someone who cannot be saved.’
‘I know that,’ Brenum reassured. ‘I love you, Trylia, and it’s obvious this ordeal has left you with conflicting emotions and unpleasant memories.’ He smiled mildly. ‘Allow me to replace those memories with some new ones of our own.’
Trylia looked up at him. ‘You still want me? After…’
‘Of course I do! I love you! I will always want you. I’m the one who said I was fine with playing Relsor at his own game. I know that he might have killed me had you not chanced things the way you did. What you did was out of love for me. I cannot hold it against you, even if you want to save him now. Besides, all you did was make him believe what he wanted to.’
‘He kissed me, Brenum.’ Trylia looked away. ‘And while he lingered there, I closed my eyes and pictured your face.’
‘Did you kiss him?’ Brenum heard the tremble in his own voice. He was not angry, he was afraid.
            ‘No,’ Trylia replied.
‘Then there we go.’ Brenum took Trylia in his arms. ‘What we went through, it was a test of our love, a test of the light side, a test to fight the darkness, and through it all our love prevailed. I was actually more worried about your new emotional connection with him than about anything that had or hadn’t happened between you. I’m not angry, Trylia. I just wish for you to not push me away, to not be distant. You’re acting how you did when you were afraid of your own feelings for me.’ Brenum paused and braced himself. ‘Have you developed more feelings for him than you are saying?’
Trylia shook her head. Brenum felt relieved. Trylia spoke softly. ‘I’m afraid you won’t want me anymore.’
‘I will always want you, because I will always love you.’ Brenum took Trylia’s face in his hands. ‘Fear is of the dark side. What does the light tell you?’
‘It tells me that it’s time to create new memories of love, and to allow myself to fully feel all that I feel, especially for you.’ Trylia smiled. She put a hand on Brenum’s face. Brenum gently touched her lekku again. ‘Make love to me.’
Brenum smiled. ‘You don’t have to ask!’
Brenum took Trylia’s face and pressed his lips to hers fiercely. He felt their love in the Force as Trylia’s energy devoured his, and he felt her lekku sway with desire. Brenum began to move forward, and as though the Sphere had read his mind, a bed appeared and they both fell atop it. Brenum brushed his hand up Trylia’s leg and she let out a soft moan. Trylia wrapped her arms and legs around him. Brenum looked up towards the open doorway.
‘Let’s have a bit of privacy.’
The Sphere obliged and shut its accessway.

Fane ran towards Shadie and jumped into her arms, giving her a atrong hug. He laughed as they swayed and dipped, his cheek pressing on hers.
‘I’m so happy you’re back and safe! I’ve missed you so much!’
Shadie laughed. ‘Believe me, Fane, I’m happy to back too. Thank you for saving us back there. That was quite the spectacle.’
‘I had help,’ Fane said modestly. Shadie looked up and saw Talyc approaching Knarf.
‘Bes’laar, you barve.’ Talyc looked at the ground. ‘I thought I might lose my best friend.’ He took the man in a warm embrace and held him tightly. Then, he backed away and wiped a tear. ‘What you did for me…’
‘You would have done for us too,’ said Knarf.
‘Oh, I’m not sure, to be honest. I’m not as brave as you are. Just… Never do that again, okay! Or I’ll kick you out of the clan.’
‘Oh-ho!’ laughed Knarf, lifting his arms in mock defence. The two embraced again.
Shadie approached and gave Talyc a hug. ‘You look well.’ She glanced Fane’s way. ‘Your man took good care of you, I see.’
‘It wasn’t just him,’ said Talyc. ‘I’ve had a healer helping me every step of the way.’
‘You should give yourself more credit, Talyc,’ said Lian, approaching. ‘You healed. I merely guided you.’
‘Lian! It’s good to see you.’ Shadie gave him a hug.
Lian placed his hands on her arms and gave her a warm smile. ‘I’m happy you made it back safely.’ He looked from her to Knarf. ‘I was worried, from time to time.’ He chuckled.
Behind her, the doorway to the Sphere closed.
‘Where are Brenum and Trylia?’ asked Fane.
‘I think they need to sort some things out,’ said Shadie, looking back at the Sphere.
‘That’s one way of putting it,’ said Knarf. ‘I think I’d like us to sort some things out too.’ He laughed.
‘It will contribute to the healing of the Force.’ Lian smiled, lifting his eyebrows, looking amused, his lekku moving behind him.
‘Let’s go heal the Force, my love,’ laughed Knarf.
‘Well, about that,’ said Shadie, ‘we will be healing the Force through the Force in a much more powerful way, in a more public way.’
‘Look,’ said Lian, ‘I’m all for healing the Force through love making, but I wasn’t volunteering to spectate.’ His mouth gave way to a teasing smile.
‘Shadie means we’re going to finally declare our love publicly and inspire the galaxy with the hope that love can heal it and everyone from Relsor’s malady.’ Knarf took Shadie’s hand. ‘We’re finally getting married.’
Talyc whistled. ‘The Council’s going to have a field day with that, aren’t they?’
‘The Council no longer has any say,’ said Shadie.
‘How do you mean?’ asked Fane.
Shadie looked from Fane to Talyc to Lian. ‘When I spoke to Master Herl’unik before the mission, I asked him to promote Fane, which you already know. What you don’t know is what I asked him to keep secret until our return. Knarf and I have left the Order. We’re no longer officially Jedi. We serve the Force. We serve the light side. But we are no longer tied to any order. We’re going to live as Mandalorians, but remain allies to the Republic. We need to live our lives the way we feel it is best for our love to help heal the Force.’
‘Somehow, I’m not surprised,’ said Lian. ‘I am very happy for you.’
‘I’m shocked, but I understand,’ said Fane. ‘I know that leaving the Order does not mean you won’t serve the Force.’
‘That is very… I don’t know.’ Talyc blushed. ‘I’m sorry, I’ve become very emotional during my time on Tython.’
‘You sound like me sometimes,’ said Knarf. ‘Nothing wrong with truly feeling.’
‘So do you have any plans for the wedding?’ asked Fane.
‘Ceremony on Tython,’ said Knarf, ‘after-party on Mandalore. Assuming those two are done in there by the time we need to take the Sphere and leave the planet.’ He pointed a thumb towards the Sphere.
‘Let them be!’ said Lian. He shook his head. ‘It’s good to see you. Let’s prepare your wedding then.’
‘My love, show them your datapad.’ Knarf looked at the others. ‘She’s already planned it all out. Our jobs are easy from here.’
Fane and Talyc laughed, looking over Shadie’s shoulder at her datapad, as the group of Jedi and Mandalorians walked towards the bunker.

Several weeks later.

Relsor sat in his command chair in his viewscreen room, rapping his fingers on the armchair, disdain filling the core of his being. From the corner of his eye, he saw Perce turn his head towards him.
‘Are you done doing that? It’s most distracting.’
Relsor stopped. ‘Play back Shadie’s speech.’ Perce only stared back at Relsor. ‘I said, play the speech again!’
‘All right,’ he said. ‘You’re the one in the command chair, there’s no need to speak to me as though I were your subordinate.’
The holoscreen showed Shadie, standing and holding Knarf’s hand. They were on Tython.
‘I am pleased to announce that Knarf and I have officially gotten married,’ Shadie was saying.
‘The Jedi Order is against marriage, I’m surprised they allowed it,’ said Perce.
‘We have bound our love in the Force through ceremony, but our love has always been strong enough to withstand the darkness we face today. However, our love is not the only love with a strong bond in the Force. We have discovered that all love is able to heal the Force from Darth Relsor’s malady and contribute to its healing as we fight this war against the True Sith. You do not need to be Force-sensitive, you do not need to be a Force-user, for true love will conquer against the True Sith. True love is strong enough.
‘All beings exist within the Living Force and therefore are united in the Unifying Force. The Force flows through all of you, and if you have found true love, then you are already contributing to healing the Force. I encourage everyone who has found such a love, to strengthen it, and express it to each other. This is what the light side needs; this is what the Force needs. But it is also what the dark side needs, as both light and dark exist and both can be destroyed by Relsor’s malady. Let your passion give the Force strength. This is how we will defeat the True Sith and their fake illusions, through the Force, through healing, and through true love.’
Perce switched the holo off. ‘I’ve had enough of this.’ Perce crinkled his nose in disdain. ‘Knarf.’ He shook his head. ‘The Jedi Order has made many exceptions it seems. Probably only because this love thing can heal the Force.’
‘Curse their love, and that of their friends,’ said Relsor. ‘She makes a mockery of the dark side with that mention about passion. Did you see their faces?’ Relsor shook his head. ‘I will wipe their smiles off their faces with the passion of the dark side and show them their love will not save them from me.’ There was a pause.
‘You thought you had her,’ said Perce.
‘Are you referring to Shadie and her dark side?’
‘Yes, but I’m also referring to Trylia.’
Relsor snorted. ‘She can die with the rest of them,’ he said. He kept his stare ahead, as the transparisteel turned back to its usual viewport state. ‘We will find a way to steal away the Crypt again, take it back from Shadie’s grasp. We will find a way to remove this healing from the Force.’
            ‘What do you propose?’
‘Jedi Master Lian. We find him, lure him out from his safe place on Tython, and destroy him. I promise you, Perce, I will kill him.’
