Homecoming Frost Queen – Fiction Short Story — Teens — Homecoming Ball

The dance music was pumping out of the speakers when Toby and Jack arrived at the dance. Jack looked about, scanning the crowd.

‘Well, we have our usual clicks going on but nothing out of the ordinary,’ reported Toby.

‘Hey! Geek squad!’ Steve called out as he approached them from behind, draping an arm over each of their shoulders.

‘Oh look, Toby,’ Jack said pointedly, ‘it’s the traitor.’

‘What?’ cried Steve. ‘I’m not a traitor!’

‘You ditched us for your more popular gang of friends,’ complained Jack.

‘I became the school quarterback,’ protested Steve. ‘I didn’t ditch anyone.’

‘Then explain not hanging out with us since the start of school, huh?’ Toby folded his arms.

‘I’ve just been busy. Look, I was hoping we could all hang out tonight.’

‘Because that’s not gonna end in disaster,’ muttered Jack.

‘Come, let me introduce you to the gang.’ Steve steered Toby and Jack towards his teammates who stood huddled and eyeing the girls passing by. ‘Guys, meet my friends, Toby and Jack.’

‘They’re your neighbours,’ corrected Dylan. ‘Doesn’t make them your friends.’

‘Dylan, play nice,’ warned Steve. He walked up to his teammates, grabbed a couple of glasses of punch from the table behind them and passed them to Toby and Jack. ‘So this is Dylan, that’s Geoff with the beard.’

‘Sup!’ Geoff raised a hand in a small wave.

‘And that’s Don with the tattoo,’ said Steve.

Don sized Toby and Jack up and down and nodded but said nothing.

‘Toby and Jack are two of the smartest guys in the school and my oldest friends,’ explained Steve. ‘I thought it would be nice for us all to hang out.’

Geoff shrugged. ‘Sure, whatever, man.’ He turned to Toby and Jack. ‘You boys know how to beer pong?’

‘Well, I mean, we know,’ began Toby.

‘Good, then we’re cool. Game later.’ Geoff grinned.

At that moment, Beth, the most popular girl in school, walked by. Her short sparkly dress was cropped mid-thigh, her hair was tied up with locks curled to perfection. She was the lead cheerleader. Jack and Toby shared a glance.

‘Hey, Beth,’ Dylan cooed, sliding to her to stop her.

Sanguine Sincerity – Romance Action Short Story

The silence was both terrifying and soothing at the same time. Liam closed his eyes and leaned against the brick wall as he stood outside the club. He had the closing shift again. It had been busy, with people dancing, shouting, laughing, all drunkenly. Now, the stillness of the winter night dampened whatever sounds came from the boulevard a few streets down.

This was where he had often stood with Julian after their work shifts, talking, laughing, kissing, and making plans for their future together. But Julian was gone, left one night before dawn, without a word, without an explanation. Only a scribble on a post-it saying, “I have to leave. I’m sorry.”

It hurt, it still did, even after all these weeks. And Julian had never called or answered Liam’s calls after that night. Liam didn’t understand why he’d left. He thought they’d been happy.

He had once relished in the quiet after the bustle of work, now he missed hearing Julian’s voice or seeing his smile. His heart broke every day again and again. Yet he continued to stand here in the spot where they had shared their first kiss, where he had told Julian he was in love with him.

After months together he had known he loved him and he’d told him. Julian had immediately reciprocated but then left a few days later. Liam couldn’t help but wonder if things had moved too fast between them.

Taking a deep breath, he ensured the club was well locked and began down the dark alley. He didn’t want to linger too long. There had been murders in the neighbourhood, all gunshot wounds. The rival gangs were at it again. It hadn’t stopped the clubgoers, though. Liam figured it was only a matter of time before both gangs decided they wanted to own the club and took their fight to the neighbouring streets.

Liam heard the screech of tires and shouting not too far. He paused, waiting to make sure it was just some drunk folks, but he tensed when he heard a gunshot thunder the stillness.

Looks like the gang fight’s here now, he thought to himself.

He quickened his pace and veered the corner into the next alley and came face to face with the man who had left him.

‘Julian!’ Liam breathed. He swallowed hard, his heart suddenly drumming in his chest.

‘Liam.’ Julian hesitated.

Liam was flooded by a wave of emotions. ‘What the hell, Julian?’ he shouted, tears stinging his eyes.

A Melancholy Farewell – Flash Fiction Romance Angst

He held her face with both hands, tears stinging his eyes.
— ‘You know I’m right,’ she whispered. ‘We can’t be together.’
— ‘I know,’ he breathed.
— She placed her hands on his and gently removed them from her face. She interlaced her fingers with his and he leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers for one final searing kiss. She opened her mouth to let him in and deepened the kiss. They squeezed their clasped hands tightly as their lips lingered on each other, neither of them daring to end the kiss.
