The Otherworlder 3: Entrapment

You have been captured by Solas. As your friends vie to reach you and free you from your entrapment, you attempt to make Solas see reason, while using your connection to the Stone to imprint magical clues.

Tears streaking down their faces, your friends stare after you through the indigo fire until you and Solas are out of sight. Onlookers emerge to gape and wonder. Finally, the flames dissipate.

Silverio scoops Halani and Barden up, hefting each of them over a shoulder, and darts forward, bounding in large strides.

‘It’s too late,’ Halani weeps.

‘No, I won’t accept it.’

‘Put us down – you’ll go faster,’ Barden voices.

Silverio lets them drop gently, crouching momentarily, and then quickly resumes his sprint. He veers around a corner into an alleyway. He circles in place, searching, frantic, eyes wide in horror as he breathes hard. The other two catch up to him, panting.

‘They’re gone,’ breathes Barden, ‘Solas and…’ his voice cracks and he stops.

‘This can’t be happening!’ cries Halani. ‘It can’t.’

‘I’ve failed to protect—’ Silverio clamps his mouth with a hand as his vision blurs further and he falls to his knees, a sob escapes his lips. Halani and Barden kneel beside him and the three weep into each other’s arms.

Barden is the first to pull away. ‘Look at us, sodding crybabies. We are strong, we are crafty and resourceful. We mustn’t lose hope.’

‘We might not know where Solas took our friend,’ says Halani, nodding her agreement, ‘but we have allies. They can help us.’

Silverio wipes his eyes with the back of his gauntlet. ‘You’re right.’ He places a hand on his heart, ‘but it hurts to be separated from the Otherworlder.’

‘It does,’ Halani says softly, ‘I feel pain in me too.’

‘I feel like my world is breaking into chaos all over again,’ Barden expresses.

‘There is an emptiness inside me that can only be filled by our friend whom we all hold dear.’ Lifting one knee and placing a foot on the ground, Silverio rises. ‘We will find where Solas went. We will find our friend.’

The three of them march back to the location where the meeting with the Divine had taken place. Silverio bangs on the door and the guards admit them. They stride towards Leliana, whose expression changes as soon as she sees their tear-stricken faces and clocks your absence.

‘Tell me everything.’

Solas pulls you along the long passage that seems to drag forever. You vaguely remember reading how for humans the Eluvian crossroads seem longer than for elves.

When you left your friends, Solas had rounded a corner and bound your hands in front of you. He divested you of your weapons, though you still wear your ring and amulet. Now he pulls you along to make it go faster as he navigates from Eluvian to Eluvian, muttering ancient Elvhen words to bypass the security and traps he himself undoubtedly laid there.

He speaks little except to instruct you.

Finally, you emerge into a Thaig. Cool air blows in from somewhere. Solas drags you into what looks like a sitting room and sits you down at a table. He leaves for a few moments. You stare at the open door, considering your options.

‘You would be wise not to try that,’ he calls out to you from the other room as you stand.

You curse under your breath and sit back down. Solas returns and places a plate of food before you. You blink at it before you laugh mirthlessly.

‘Eat,’ he instructs. ‘We have much to discuss. I need you in shape to share all you know.’

You narrow your eyes at him. ‘You assume I will cooperate.’

‘You will,’ he asserts, with confidence and arrogance.

You fight the urge to roll your eyes. You decide to tell him exactly how you’ve always felt about him and his story arc.

Clandestine and Naked in Val Royeaux – Dragon Age Fan-Fiction Erotic Romance Short Story

Note: Excerpt is SFW.

Lady Evelyne Trevelyan, leader of the Inquisition, marched towards Gaspard and his troops in the Arbor Wilds. Since their reunion at Skyhold, they had had several clandestine rendezvous; the Inquisition’s spymaster was most helpful in that regard.
Even now, after months since their first night together, since becoming lovers, Evelyne made Gaspard’s heart flutter uncontrollably. He had to be careful to maintain his mask and play the game, more so when around her in public. He knew that once their affair was known, he would have to be even more careful to maintain composure in front of his people, but at least he would have her by his side. For now, however, he had to contend himself with meeting in secret whenever they could.
Gaspard realised suddenly that after all this time of calling her his love, he had never told her that he loved her. A part of him wondered if it was too soon to make such declarations, but surely she felt the same.
Gaspard smiled as she approached with her advisors. ‘Inquisitor Trevelyan, it is an honour to be marching upon Corypheus’s forces with you.’
‘The feeling is mutual, Emperor de Chalons,’ smiled Evelyne.
Gaspard was careful to remain neutral in the face of the squeeze he felt in his stomach. Oh, how he wished she would tell him the same when he revealed to her his true love for her.
‘If you wouldn’t mind, Emperor de Chalons,’ began Leliana, ‘there is a matter I wished to discuss with you and the Inquisitor in private. May we borrow your tent?’
‘Certainly.’ Gaspard motioned forward and led the two ladies into his tent.
Leliana immediately struck the tent’s flaps shut, positioning herself to face the entrance, hands clasped behind her back. She looked over her shoulder.
‘You may speak freely to each other, you have but a few moments. I will ensure no one enters this tent.’
‘Thank you, Leliana.’ Evelyne turned to Gaspard and wrapped her arms around him, kissing him tenderly.
Gaspard relished in the sensation of her warm lips on his. It triggered a desire within him. He wished they could forgo the attack and lose themselves in each other right now, but he knew that was not possible. He would have to maintain his composure and remain patient.
He placed his hands on her face. ‘Do be careful, Lady Inquisitor, ma jolie, my love.’
‘I will. Promise me to be careful as well,’ replied Evelyne.
‘I give you my word as a Chevalier that I will remain unharmed and I will be here to…congratulate you when you are done.’
Evelyne beamed at him, making his heart skip several beats.
They kissed some more and Evelyne pulled away as reluctantly as Gaspard did. She began to turn when Gaspard grabbed her arm, pulling her back to him. She had a puzzled look on her face. Gaspard realised that his brows were creased and he had lost all semblance of the mask he always wore as the Emperor of Orlais.
He lifted his actual mask to rest atop his head so Evelyne could see his eyes completely. ‘I love you.’
His gaze remained fixed on hers, knowing the intensity of his words would convey the verity in his heart.
Evelyne opened her mouth to speak, then paused. Gaspard’s heart hammered away, the anticipation of her reply more frightening than when he ever came close to defeat or death in combat.
Then, Evelyne smiled wide. ‘I love you too, Gaspard.’
Gaspard’s heart whooped and he let out a sigh of relief, grinning. ‘Oh, my love, ma douce, Evelyne.’ He kissed her deeply, his tongue twining with hers, only wanting to celebrate now.

The 2nd Edition of Stardust Destinies I Variate Facing is now available on Amazon, Barnes n Noble, Chapters/Indigo, and other online book stores.

Author’s Note:

I am so proud of myself to have worked on this 2nd Edition. I learnt so much, not only working with other editors, but also as a writer on Medium, and I put all I learnt into enhancing the story of the first book to bring it up to par with the 2nd.

The re-edit includes extended scenes, rephrasing of the narrative in some places to respect my voice better, revisions by my new editor who edited book 2, and a few additional changes, like turning ‘said’ dialogue tags into alternatives that convey the characters’ emotions better.

Embark on the journey with the Five of the Star!
