Protectors of the Force Chapter Four (Star Wars SWTOR Fan-Fiction)

The hatch to the Krayt Dragon’s umbilical opened, but instead of being greeted with a party of Imperial officers and a security detail, a tall man cloaked in a black cape and garbed in dark heavy armour stood before them.  He waved a hand and their lightsabers went flying out of their grips and onto the floor.
‘I’ve not come for a fight,’ he said, his voice low in pitch.  ‘It took many resources to find and intercept you, let’s not waste time with shenanigans.’  He signalled his guards, who took a stance next to the hatch. They looked like his personal guard.
‘What’s going on?’ asked Lian, sensing this man’s powerful presence in the dark side of the Force.
‘As far as everyone else is concerned, your ship matches that of a pirate gang’s and you are being inspected.’
‘And in reality?’ asked Brenum, who stood to Lian’s side.
‘I am here to speak,’ the man said pointedly.
‘Why all the secrecy?’ asked Lian suspiciously.
‘Because the Empire has an alliance with the True Sith, and were anyone from the Empire or the True Sith to find out that I was here to speak with Jedi, it would bode very ill for all of us.  While Relsor is distracted on Mandalore, however, is the perfect opportunity to attempt such a meeting of secrecy.’
‘And who are you?’ asked Trylia.
The man smiled and bowed with dignity.  ‘I am Lord Void, member of the Dark Council.’
Brenum whispered to Lian.  ‘Void. I hope he doesn’t space us into some sort of void.’
‘It was my apprentice whom Shadie saved on Relsor’s ship,’ the dark lord continued.  ‘I am also allied with Darth Usharr, former High Master and leader of the Sith Academy on Korriban.  It is my understanding that Haar’elso’rothmor is being dishonourable with his deal in the alliance with the Sith Empire.  I require your assistance in finding the evidence needed to prove it. Then I can convince the Dark Council and the Empire’s leaders to renege on that alliance.’
Lian didn’t know much about the Dark Council but he knew it was similar in a few ways to the Jedi Council.  Each voice had input, and could sometimes even argue against the Grand Master.
‘As a member of the Dark Council, why can’t you just tell them?’ he asked.
Lord Void stepped forward, leaning on his front foot.  ‘You were not there when Relsor approached us to ally ourselves with him.  I was there to witness his powers firsthand, as chaos reigned within the Dark Council chamber, as we all saw something different, until he showed us how it had all been multiple illusions created by him that our power, from we who are the most powerful Sith in all the galaxy, could not combat.  We had no choice but to agree, we had no choice but to join him.’
Brenum looked over Lian’s shoulder at Trylia.  ‘We have experienced his illusions too.’
‘Then you know the fear they cause, the destruction they can create, the control he has over anyone who succumbs to such an illusion.’  Lord Void took another step towards them.  ‘Help me find how to convince my peers otherwise.  Help me provide the solution to countering Relsor’s illusions.’
‘I can counter his illusions,’ said Lian.  ‘That’s why Mandalore is in desperate need of us right now.’
‘Then the sooner we begin, the sooner you may leave.’
The Dark Lord was not going to let them leave until they had indulged him with solutions and aid.  They could use an extra ally, even if that ally was Sith.  The timing was just way too tight.
‘I can sense your impatience,’ said Lord Void.  ‘I assure you, I am not here to detain you or to stop you.  But this is truly the only time we have and we must make the most of it…

Talyc and Fane (SWTOR Fanfic Photoshop Experiments)

I love writing Talyc and Fane angst. Their relationship has a lot of ups and down. And I love depicting those ups and downs with my Photoshop experiments. Their faces are not depicted by SWTOR characters, but instead with Inquisitors from Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Here, Talyc and Fane are having an intimate sort of squabble. I created this image a while back and couldn’t decide whether it was when they were fighting (literally punching each other) or when they were making up.

Fane and Talyc hallway confrontation (from Protectors of the Force, Story 7, Star Wars Fan-Fiction by Celinka Serre)

Here Talyc is fighting Jassahmi, though technically in the scene, he’s naked when he fights her. The problem I had with this, while I would have been more than happy to depict this, and I could have created a decent angle, from the waist up, I could not find appropriate angles of characters with their bare chest or recreate them. I did not want to use SWTOR characters that depict other characters, and I had this perfect fighting pose of a character in Mando armour, I had to use it. It’s a slight inconsistency, but nothing major. Unless you insist I must find a way to recreate this image with a naked Talyc, I think we get the gist and it fits the scene well enough.

Talyc wields his vibroblade, while Jassahmi wields the darksaber, the black core black lightsaber that is imbued with the dark side. She is Mirialan.

Protectors of the Force Chapter Three (Star Wars SWTOR Fan-Fiction)

Fane ran into the briefing room where Shadie and Knarf stood with the Mandalore.  The monitor displays showed a blip hovering above the planet.
            ‘Talyc’s missing,’ he said, panting.
‘We know,’ said Mandalore sternly.  ‘Shadie has just informed me that she sensed him leaving the planet.’
‘Wait, what? I thought he’d been captured again.  Left the planet?’  Fane shook his head, confused.  ‘I thought Mandalore was on lockdown!’
‘It is,’ replied the Mandalore.  ‘No one can leave the planet unless they have the special codes, and only I, my wife, and clan leaders have those.’
‘So that explains Talyc being able to bypass the lockdown.’  Fane signed and clenched his teeth, closing his eyes.  ‘The last time he went missing, he was captured and tortured.  This time it’s the dark side influencing his decisions.’ Fane tried to quell the desperation he felt.  ‘And communications are jammed.’
‘Not anymore,’ said Shadie.  ‘Knarf sliced through them.  It’s Perce, nothing he slices is permanent.’  She smiled gingerly.  Fane appreciated the attempt to lighten the mood.
‘I tried to raise him on our comchannel,’ said Knarf, ‘but I’ve had no response.’  Fane closed his eyes, trying to feel Talyc in the Force.
‘I will have better luck,’ said Mandalore.  Fane opened his eyes.  Shadie looked saddened, Knarf looked worried, and Mandalore looked angry.  The Mandalorian leader pointed at the blip.  ‘He’s still in real space.’

* * *

Talyc punched in the coordinates, pulling on the throttle.  He was about to make the jump when his fighter’s comsignal gave a shrill beep.  He switched it off, ignoring it.  It pained him to leave so secretively, but it was the only way he could survive this.  The com beeped again.  He hit it again, ignoring the call once more.  The com chimed again, but this time with the private chime from the Mandalore.  Talyc stared at the comboard.  He had lingered above the planet long enough already; he needed to get a move on.  He ignored Mandalore’s call.
‘Talyc!’ came Mandalore’s voice.  Talyc looked around his unit.
‘Mandalore?’ he said.  ‘How did you…  I didn’t take this call.’
‘No, you did not,’ said Mandalore. ‘I forced it on you.’
Talyc nodded to himself: Knarf. ‘Those are some pretty fancy slicing skills, Knarf.  I’m assuming he’s there with you, Mandalore?’
‘Yes,’ came Knarf’s voice.  ‘Look, Talyc, if we can’t persuade you to stay, perhaps Fane can.’
‘No!  I don’t want to talk to him.’  It pained him to say it.
‘Why?  What’s going on in that head of yours?’ said Mandalore.
‘I’m sorry Mandalore, but I need to do this.’
‘Talyc.’  Knarf’s voice was soft, tender, caring, and it sliced Talyc’s heart with cold fear, as a whirlwind of conflicting emotions overwhelmed him.
‘You’re all the reason I’m in this mess.  I don’t want to have anything to do with it anymore.  No more captures, no more tortures.  I just want to live.’
‘The dark side is influencing you and you are not yourself, Talyc,’ came Shadie’s pleading voice.  ‘Your clan needs you.’
            ‘My clan needs me alive.’
‘Talyc Kandera,’ said Mandalore, ‘if you go rogue, I swear I will hunt you down myself.  Don’t make me do this; don’t make me ground you on planet.  I, Mandalore, order you to return immediately.’
            ‘I’m sorry,’ said Talyc.
He punched in the confirmation to go to hyperspace.

Lian Faces His Fate (SWTOR Fanfic Photoshop Experiments)

In Story 7, Lian has to face his greatest fear, sensing much. He is a central character in the events of this story and his choices carry over in the stories of the series to come.

To depict Lian, I created a character in SWTOR specifically for his depictions, a blue Twi’lek. This one was a simple one to do, choosing a screenshot of a background of the Jedi Knight ship that could look like a Jedi archive on Tython. Lian’s expression is with one of the game’s Emotes Moods. Basic Photoshop editing was required for colour correction, lighting adjustments, and the “border” of light around the character. I like this one, despite its simplicity. It is a meaningful scene in the story.

Next is the story image. Each story image is always an object or something of significance, never a character per se. I used a background and created two lightsabers, Lian’s silver-white lightsaber, and one of Relsor’s red lightsabers (he wields two). I had fun paying around with various brushes to creates the sparks of the clash, and then I blurred the background significantly.

By the way, I now have a proper gaming PC, so I’ve been rerecording gameplay of my characters I use to depict fanfic story characters to take better screenshots. I mean, it’s still a ten year old game, so the quality is not as high definition as a game made today, but the screenshots are sharper than before and they allow me to do more with my characters in Photoshop.

As you can see, however, farther shots of characters still come one a bit blurry, especially when I’m making them bigger for my image, but it depicts the fight between Lian and Relsor taking place on Mandalore. I’m not sure I got the jump angle correctly though. I think the addition of shadows helps, which I’ve started to get good at. It’s a simple task of adding a layer, selecting the character, painting that area of the layer black, playing with the opacity, adding a Gaussian Blur, and then adjusting the angle and length of the shadow layer.

I know in the future I will need to improve and perfect the severed lekku for Lian. This image was a last minute addition, though it is a start for practice. Though in the future, he’ll not have a fresh wound at the sever point, I’ll need to remember where the lekku is shortened and at what angle. Kind of like remembering to add wrinkles or scars to specific characters.

This is Lian at the Crypt, the asteroid rock that has its own gravity and air supply. A rock-like planet type station turned crypt that houses many ancient Jedi and Sith relics.
