Clandestine and Naked in Val Royeaux – Dragon Age Fan-Fiction Erotic Romance Short Story

Note: Excerpt is SFW.

Lady Evelyne Trevelyan, leader of the Inquisition, marched towards Gaspard and his troops in the Arbor Wilds. Since their reunion at Skyhold, they had had several clandestine rendezvous; the Inquisition’s spymaster was most helpful in that regard.
Even now, after months since their first night together, since becoming lovers, Evelyne made Gaspard’s heart flutter uncontrollably. He had to be careful to maintain his mask and play the game, more so when around her in public. He knew that once their affair was known, he would have to be even more careful to maintain composure in front of his people, but at least he would have her by his side. For now, however, he had to contend himself with meeting in secret whenever they could.
Gaspard realised suddenly that after all this time of calling her his love, he had never told her that he loved her. A part of him wondered if it was too soon to make such declarations, but surely she felt the same.
Gaspard smiled as she approached with her advisors. ‘Inquisitor Trevelyan, it is an honour to be marching upon Corypheus’s forces with you.’
‘The feeling is mutual, Emperor de Chalons,’ smiled Evelyne.
Gaspard was careful to remain neutral in the face of the squeeze he felt in his stomach. Oh, how he wished she would tell him the same when he revealed to her his true love for her.
‘If you wouldn’t mind, Emperor de Chalons,’ began Leliana, ‘there is a matter I wished to discuss with you and the Inquisitor in private. May we borrow your tent?’
‘Certainly.’ Gaspard motioned forward and led the two ladies into his tent.
Leliana immediately struck the tent’s flaps shut, positioning herself to face the entrance, hands clasped behind her back. She looked over her shoulder.
‘You may speak freely to each other, you have but a few moments. I will ensure no one enters this tent.’
‘Thank you, Leliana.’ Evelyne turned to Gaspard and wrapped her arms around him, kissing him tenderly.
Gaspard relished in the sensation of her warm lips on his. It triggered a desire within him. He wished they could forgo the attack and lose themselves in each other right now, but he knew that was not possible. He would have to maintain his composure and remain patient.
He placed his hands on her face. ‘Do be careful, Lady Inquisitor, ma jolie, my love.’
‘I will. Promise me to be careful as well,’ replied Evelyne.
‘I give you my word as a Chevalier that I will remain unharmed and I will be here to…congratulate you when you are done.’
Evelyne beamed at him, making his heart skip several beats.
They kissed some more and Evelyne pulled away as reluctantly as Gaspard did. She began to turn when Gaspard grabbed her arm, pulling her back to him. She had a puzzled look on her face. Gaspard realised that his brows were creased and he had lost all semblance of the mask he always wore as the Emperor of Orlais.
He lifted his actual mask to rest atop his head so Evelyne could see his eyes completely. ‘I love you.’
His gaze remained fixed on hers, knowing the intensity of his words would convey the verity in his heart.
Evelyne opened her mouth to speak, then paused. Gaspard’s heart hammered away, the anticipation of her reply more frightening than when he ever came close to defeat or death in combat.
Then, Evelyne smiled wide. ‘I love you too, Gaspard.’
Gaspard’s heart whooped and he let out a sigh of relief, grinning. ‘Oh, my love, ma douce, Evelyne.’ He kissed her deeply, his tongue twining with hers, only wanting to celebrate now.

The Process With Commissioning Artwork for A Character We’ve Never Seen! (feat. Kemvee) (Dragon Age Lucanis Dellamorte)

In the Dragon Age book, Tevinter Nights, in the story The Wigmaker, we meet Lucanis Dellamorte, heir to becoming the First Talon of the Antivan Crows. He is an assassin, the best in Antiva. There are a few descriptions that mark his hair and eye colour, a few other things here and there, but mostly it’s his personality upon which the story is focused when describing him. He comes off as a sexy and brooding man.

So when I wrote my explicit fan-fiction short story, A Seductive Contract, I based myself on that. But then I also wanted artwork commissioned by an artist I know, Kemvee. But we’ve never seen Lucanis. So how did Kemvee and I do it?

Note: For the purposes of this post, I’m using the preview of the image,
which is decent enough, as in not explicit.

First, I went back in Tevinter Nights to find any description indicators I could find. Then I looked at the little bit of concept art there is of some Antivan Crows for Dragon Age 4. We never see their faces, but I found the armour I wanted him to be wearing. There is also one assassin in one of the concept art pieces that has his chest exposed with a tattoo that covers most of it — I call him “Sexy Chesty Crow” — so that’s who I chose as the model.

Here’s what Kemvee has to say about the process:

For Lucianis we had so little to work with! A tiny piece of concept art, no face, no clear look at his tattoos so we had to get creative. The writer was fantastic in providing me with a lot of great description and as I was developing the tattoo/hairstyle we went back and forth a lot. The frequent communication really helped and I’m grateful for Binky’s patience when we were making small tweaks!

The tattoo itself is a crow with wings wrapping round like a collar with and ‘Antivan Crow’ tail. I kept it on a separate layer so when we see Lucanis in-game it will be easy for me to switch out to something more canon friendly.

With putting both our imaginations together, we were able to conceptualise something, and Kemvee was really able to complete the rest with her seriously amazing talent. Of course, there are features that might be completely different once the game comes out, such as facial features, tattoos, scars, and skin tone.

I gave Kemvee the indications of the scars I wanted him to have, the position I wanted him to be in, with an excerpt from my fic. Here’s Kemvee on her drawing process:

I start with a very rough sketch to get the pose/framing right, this is little more than a fleshed out stick figure. A more detailed sketch follows which captures the full concept including expressions, clothing and notes for later. I also try to get the background complete at this stage so I can determine where the main points of light are coming from.

Once the sketch is approved, it’s onto the line art which is typically my longest stage especially if I’m including complicated clothing (which I love illustrating). For rendering I tend to apply flat colours, then a layer of shading which I multiply up to create depth. Finishing highlights are added in a complementary colour to the light source!

Kemvee sent me some work-in progress images, and there were some tweaks I wanted once all was done, but once the bulk had been done, only minor adjustments remained.

I am amazed by how talented she is and how well she was able to bring to life what I was envisioning in my mind, what I had written in my fan-fiction short story, and it finally culminated to this beautiful piece of artwork drawn by Kemvee. It is Lucanis Dellamorte as we envision him.

It will be rather interesting to see what he looks like when Dragon Age 4 comes out.

Thank you, Kemvee, for the art you did for me, and for writing up your process
so I could include it in this blog post.

Desperate Desire – Dragon Age Solas Fan-fiction

This fanfic was written with a bit of fun from readers. I made a series of polls on Twitter to determine the franchise, pairing, characters, etc. Readers also selected wanting angst to accompany the smut, with a bit of fluff.

As per, the excerpt is safe for work.

Solas can no longer bear being away from his Vhenan. He seeks her out
and allows himself to feel everything he desires of her, emotionally and physically.

Solas stared down at the table on which he leaned, tears brimming his eyes, consumed by his guilt and longing. A knot formed in his stomach. His own words echoed in his mind. “I felt the whole world change.” As did her words. “Var lath vir suledin!” Their kiss lingered on his lips, even after all this time, as had every kiss. It would linger for all eternity.
Solas pushed himself off the table, shouting in anguish. Heaving, he trembled, the howling wind outside the White Spire the only other noise in the mountain range thaig.
Solas thought back at how he came to this point, how it all began. He remembered waking and feeling so little, feeling numb, as it should have been, for it kept him focused.
The people of the world he awoke to felt empty and devoid of true and deep emotion. They had a way of severing magical connections from mages and called these, Tranquil. He met Tranquil, and he felt that even those who were not sundered from magic were but a mere shell of what a true being could be, could feel, and the energy they could exude around them.
Solas had felt devoid of emotions, neutral, and this was how he wanted it to remain. Stripped from the Fade in this world he had created when he held up the sky and separated the Veil from the world, sundered from magic, he was numb and weak, and only his regret remained.
        And then…
Solas closed his eyes and whispered, ‘Vhenan.
She made him feel everything around him, everything between them, as a tingle coursing through his veins. With every heartbeat, his skin was caressed with a ghostly sensation of crackling magical energy. A longing filled his heart, a need only she could satiate.
Solas turned and clutched his stomach, feeling the pain physically as a wound in his gut. He balled his hands into fists and let himself slide to the floor, weeping.
I cannot bear the thought of you alone.
        A loud sob escaped him.
He had to find a way, some way, any way.
Resolved, Solas lifted himself from the floor and marched to the place where he kept his disguises. He knew what he had to do.

Rooftop Escapade

Another Dragon Age fan-fiction short story that was written as a reward for donations during the Dragon Age Day fundraising campaign event. This one is a fluffy one.

Isabela and Bethany express their feelings for each other,
and, after a little escapade, share their first kiss.

Isabela bent forward, squinting her eyes and craning her neck to see the broken jewel in the palm of Garrett’s hand.
‘That’s what you dragged us all the way out here for?’ she asked.
‘It’ll be worth something in Darktown,’ Garrett insisted.
Isabela exchanged a look with Bethany, who appeared to be just as bemused by her brother’s findings.
‘Eee-no,’ said Isabela. ‘You have fun trying to sell that; we’ll go after more valuable loot.’
Garrett chuckled. ‘Come on. This belonged to someone, and I bet they’re willing to pay just to have it back.’
‘You know, Garrett,’ said Bethany, ‘you’d do well not to take such advantage of people’s misery like that.’
‘I am not!’ Garrett protested. Bethany crossed her arms.
Garrett grumbled and crouched down again, rummaging through more dirt.
The sun was coming down over the horizon across the Wounded Coast. Isabela looked towards Bethany. The purple light hit her face on the side, giving her eyes an ethereal glow. She smiled.
        Bethany shifted uneasily. ‘What?’
        ‘Oh, nothing.’
‘No, not nothing. Why are you looking at me like that?’ asked Bethany.
‘Well, it’s just the light hitting your eyes,’ Isabela replied sheepishly.
‘It…it doesn’t make me look ghoulish, does it?’
‘Why would you think anything could make you look ghoulish!’ Isabela exclaimed, suppressing a laugh.
‘Anders and Varric were saying…when I cast spells, my eyes go all ghoulish.’
‘Oh, you sweet thing, they were just teasing you.’ Isabela playfully nudged Bethany. ‘You have lovely eyes.’
‘You…you really think so?’ Bethany blushed.
        ‘Of course!’
‘And what does the light do to them then?’
‘It makes your eyes glow and you look like a mage who’s come from the world of dreams,’ said Isabela, trying to sound poetic.
‘From the Fade!’ Bethany’s eyes widened in curiosity.
Isabela hesitated. ‘I mean, from my dreams.’
‘You’ve dreamt of mages with glowing eyes?’ asked Bethany, sounding hesitant, and glancing away.
Isabela smiled, feeling herself blush. ‘You’re going to make me express it clearly, aren’t you.’
‘I don’t know what you’re on about?’ Bethany’s eyes darted away before meeting Isabela’s again.
‘What I’m trying to say, is, I guess, you’re the mage–’
        ‘AHA!’ Garrett shouted. ‘Found it!’
        Isabela deflated. ‘Found what?’
‘The other half of the jewel.’ Garrett looked like a child in a candy shop.
‘Hurray,’ Isabela said, her voice full of sarcasm.
‘It’s still not impressive,’ said Bethany, ‘and I doubt you’ll be able to sell it.’
Garrett waved a hand dismissively, taking several steps away from them to examine the two halves in the setting sunlight.
‘Bethany,’ said Isabela, ‘you have lovely eyes, and I find you very beautiful.’
‘Oh!’ Bethany’s cheeks darkened. She shifted shyly.
‘There, I said it.’ Isabela turned her boot in the sand, unable to meet Bethany’s eyes.
‘You find me pretty?’ asked Bethany.
‘Yes,’ Isabela replied. ‘I mean, I find a lot of people pretty, but none of them garner a feeling of…wanting to spend more time with them.’
‘But you’ve spent so much time with so many people,’ said Bethany.
‘Spending the night with a concubine you’ve been lusting over is not the same as spending time with someone you care about,’ Isabela admitted. She looked up and met Bethany’s gaze. The mage’s smile sent a warm sensation through Isabela’s body.
‘You care about me?’ asked Bethany. Her eyes seemed to sparkle.
        ‘Yes.’ Isabela kept her gaze.
Bethany smiled even more widely. ‘I care about you too.’ She blushed. ‘And I find you very beautiful too.’
‘Oh good! I mean, about the caring.’ Isabela let out an embarrassed laugh. ‘What I mean to say is, I was worried you maybe didn’t feel the same way. Well, I suspected, but until I knew for sure… And gosh, I’m normally not this nervous.’ The two women let out a small giggle.
Bethany glanced at the ground. ‘I was hoping you’d feel that way, but since I’ve never even talked about such feelings before, I didn’t know how I might tell you. Thank you for saying it first.’
Bethany looked down again before reaching out with her hand. Isabela smiled, taking Bethany’s hand in hers. It was warm and smooth, and Isabela gently brushed her thumb over Bethany’s palm.
‘Ah, excellent!’ said Garrett, arriving with a pile of oddments. He took Isabela and Bethany’s hands, pulling them out, and placed a number of items in their open palms. ‘Both hands,’ he instructed, ‘so your four hands.’
Isabela rolled her eyes, glaring at Garrett. He bent, turning around, grabbing more of what he’d brought from the beach.
        Bethany’s eyes wandered awkwardly.
Isabela leaned in towards her conspiratorially and whispered. ‘You want to drop this hoard and run away? I bet he wouldn’t even notice we were gone.’
        Bethany gasped. ‘We couldn’t.’
        ‘We could!’
Bethany reflexively bit her thumbnail; some of the items dropped to the ground. She gasped in surprise. Isabela giggled.
‘I’ve never done anything like that before,’ Bethany said, fidgeting. ‘It seems so…uncouth.’
Isabela looked over at Garrett, who was humming to himself, digging about the area, exclaiming every now and then. She looked back at Bethany and cocked her head towards Garrett.
‘What do you say? Run away with me?’ She let out a small laugh.
Bethany sucked in her lips, suppressing a smile. ‘Okay,’ she whispered.
Isabela bit her lower lip, feeling a thrill. ‘Now.’
They dropped the hoard, and still holding hands, began to run back towards the city. They were already too far when they heard Garrett calling out to them.
