Counting Time & Polken Talk – Appendix 4 & 5 — Epic Fantasy Lore for Stardust Destinies

Counting Time

The Telorians, along with all polcs, have a different way of counting the days than we do. The polc New Year’s Day falls on the shortest day of the year. The longest day of the year is called Half Year’s Day. In between each, when night and day are of equal length, is the Warm Quarter Day and the Cool Quarter Day. The polcs count 365 days each year, like we do, and every fourth year, there is an extra day before Warm Quarter Day (our Spring Equinox). They count four seasons: Spring, Summer, Colouring, and Winter. Spring starts on Warm Quarter Day, Summer on Half Year’s Day, and so forth.

Polcs don’t have months like we do. They have the notion of weeks, though. This may become confusing when keeping track of their birthdays, but if you’re used to counting with the sun, it becomes second nature. Someone’s birthday would be on the oomph day of the umph week of the season, or the oomph of the year. They knew that Warm Quarter Day fell on the 90th day of the year, Half Year’s Day on the 183rd, Cool Quarter Day on the 276th, and New Year’s Day on the first.

My First Month on Medium

I published my first story on Medium on September 3rd. I thought I had been on here longer because I’ve been so busy here and am loving this journey so far.

Some stories are mirrored from my website, but many are unique and exclusive to Medium.

In my first month, I found and figured out my rhythm and schedule, I found a Publication I feel I have worthy content to share and post to, I learned the ropes and protocol of medium (mostly), began following and reading countless other Medium writers, and installed the app on my tablet so I can read in bed and not only in front of my computer (though I do my writing and scheduling at the computer only).

Oh, I also created three publications of my own to post specific content to. Stardust Destinies for original YA-NA Epic Fantasy stories pertaining to my book series, Erotica Fan-Fiction for everything fanfic smut in the Dragon AgeMass Effect and SWTOR fandoms (but mostly Dragon Age), and Protectors of the Force for my Old Republic era Star wars novella fanfic series. Those are longer and estimated to be a couple of hours per read, but I prefer to have them in full here rather than chapter by chapter. Easier to bookmark for anyone who’s into that sort of story.

The Girl Who Broke My Nose And Stole My Boyfriend

High-School Drama That Felt Like An Episode of the O.C.

Crack! You know the sound effect in movies when someone gets punched in the face? Imagine that sound inside your head. Now imagine you’re in gym class, high school, and you’re about to win the badminton match, all you have to do is flick the birdie to the other side. But your gym partner, and at the time friend, decides to run across from the other end to whack the birdie. Except she doesn’t whack the birdie, she whacks your nose.

I was 16. And she was part of our gang of friends at the time. And I trusted her. I wasn’t very good at gym, but I was decent enough at badminton. . . I think. Anyway, you can imagine there was a lot of red gushing from my nose. Adrenaline kept me hyped and eager to get to the clinic. Others were passing out around me or running off nauseated. I was in pain, massive pain, but I was surviving.

In the end, I got my nose fixed. Looks better now than it did before it got broken, so there’s that.

So there is me, recovering from my broken nose, sensitive bone, and once summer rolls around (three months later), all I want to do is chill and hang out with my friends. We were four close friends, all girls. One of them is my best friend to this day, I consider her family. Another, a close friend, though we seldom see each other. And the last, the girl who broke my nose.
