Lore Snippet:

The Portal lies at the heart of the Darakön mountains, deep within the dragons’ lair. It is a portal into their celestial realm. Magic comes from there. So long as the portal remains open, magic exists in the world.

The drawback is that so long as the portal remains open, there will be those like Mirauk who will attempt to gain its magic.

If one goes through the Portal, one can gain immeasurable power. That is why the rule exists that only those wisest in magic may step through, but they must do so at the end of their lives, for they are not to return. Doing so would grant them such immense power that a living being should not possess, for it has the risk of corrupting their intent.

As such, two books were created to separate the most powerful spells in two, and only the wisest may have access to those books. The Book of Enchantment and the Complement Book contain the Portal Key Spell.

Mirauk wishes to exploit the Portal’s magic. He has already stolen one of the books. If he is successful, he will gain the power to dominate over all the world and force his tyranny on all its peoples.
