The Old Grey House – Fantasy Fiction Song from Stardust Destinies

The following is a passage from Stardust Destinies I Variate Facing.

‘Why, I’m Drúgan. I live here with my two grandchildren, who took it upon themselves to help me help others. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of me — I’m in the old songs, you know. There’s even a song about my daughter and her husband, who have their own invisible house.’

‘Well,’ began Vigh, ‘I’m afraid we haven’t been singing the songs for a long time.’

‘I understand,’ said Drúgan. ‘Let me have the honour.’ He cleared his throat and began to sing with gusto.

Up in the north near the Ortim River,
Lives old Drúgan in that land;
And when you go up thither,
No doubt he will give you a hand.

There with him lives Tlúnëe,
The bravest of the warriors,
With his green eyes like the sea
And his silk hat with the feathers.

There also lives young Clahria,
With her long golden hair,
Who, like her mother Maria,
Practices magic in a secret lair.

Dumbbells & Subpoenas — All in the Name of Eroticism!

So, I’ve told you about my Worst Typo Ever, which was found in a sad and touching scene. Well, I’ve got two more typos that give that one a run for its money, and they’re in the same scene!

And from an erotic scene on top of that!

Setting The Mood

The scene is between two male lovers, one’s a vampire, and the other a werewolf. Their love is passionate, they express it intensely. And the scene begins at a slower pace than others, it is…sensual.

And then the heat rises and their eagerness kicks in and all they want is to devour each other.

That’s when typo one makes its appearance.

“He dumbbells at his belt…”

What?

Okay, uhm…

So, here’s the thing.

Sometimes my inspiration flows like freakin’ Niagara Falls, so if I’m in bed, I’ll just grab my tablet and “write” notes on the notepad app I’ve got on there. Basically, I’m tapping away so fast at the screen, I hope to hit all the correct letters.

Then I email that to myself and copy-paste it into my document.

And sometimes, autocorrect decides to deduce what the typo was meant to be and replaces it with a word.

Well, after laughing for 10 minutes straight, I finally figured out that the word I wanted there was “fumbled.” “He fumbled at his belt…”

And so, still giggling, I move on and continue to proofread my scene.

It’s as though “dumbbells” was just there to set the scene for the double whammy when I come upon:

I Asked ChatGPT For Help with Guns & Got Flagged😅

So something interesting happened today. I asked ChatGPT for help to ensure the accuracy of the narrative of some of my action sequences and several replies and questions got flagged by the system for violating ChatGPT’s Content Policy of the Terms & Conditions.

I’ve been writing a novel that stemmed from a short story here on Medium (I will be sharing the novel in full here once it’s ready) and I’ve got sexy vampire boyfriends, hunks for werewolves, you get the gist.

My characters have guns. I know nothing about guns.

I don’t want to sound like a complete noob, however, which would ruin a tense action scene. That would not be good.

Hence why I asked ChatGPT’s assistance in this.

I did do some google searches, but the whole jargon about guns and rifles just flies right over my head.

At first, all was great, and after I put in my feedback, it went back to not flagging things, but somewhere in the middle, it started flagging everything.

Why I Never Hex or Curse Anyone…Ever!

There is an unspoken rule regarding hexing and cursing among many witches. Hexing and cursing are also very tricky and must be done under such specific circumstances that even if you do everything right, one missed detail and it might backfire, and then you wind up hexing or cursing yourself.

The Rule:

“Don’t hex or curse anyone who has not personally, directly, and intentionally harmed you.”

So people who have done things to hurt you purposely towards you and specifically you.

This means:

  • If they hurt you accidentally? Don’t hex or curse them.
  • That troll online? Don’t hex or curse them.
  • The person you had a disagreement with? Nope.
  • That politician who keeps implementing laws that might harm people? Sorry, no.
  • That person who threatened to hex or curse you? No.
  • Someone who bullied you? You could.
  • An abuser? Definitely.
  • Someone who keeps doing things on purpose to sabotage you or defame you? Also yes.

Things can get tricky when you enter the nitty-gritty of it all.

Then, you must be specific in your hex or curse; you must ensure this hex or curse will not harm anyone else in the process. “Friendly fire” is not acceptable.

I never hex or curse!

It goes against my core values as a human being and against my personal beliefs and values and the rules I follow as a witch. The main rule most witches follow is: Whatever you do, do not harm anyone else.

Hence, hexing or cursing someone, even with good reason, is me intentionally harming someone else. So I just don’t do it.

What happens if a hex or curse backfires on you?
